Q&A:
Question by Megan S: Are woman allowed to wear woman’s Armour according to the bible?
OK, so in Deuteronomy there is a passage that talks about woman not being allowed to wear men’s clothing and vice verse…but some translations replace “mens clothes” with Armour (though literal translation means “mens clothing”). Anyways I understand it says that cross dressing is wrong but I’m more wondering what about the grey areas? I understand a woman wearing a man’s armor is wrong-but what about a woman wearing armor designed solely for women? (eh em-I don’t recall breastplates molded to fit a woman’s breasts meant to be worn by a man and wouldn’t that be considered cross dressing if a man wore that?) I mean I know the passage that talks about putting on the full armor of God talks about women too…and I understand the bible makes it clear that men and women are equal but have different roles…but I also understand that Deborah became a judge because no man was strong enough so she had to…couldn’t the same logic be applied for warfare? Like Joan of Arc?
I think another example of where it gets confusing is genderless clothing like T-shirts (which many many ministries allow both genders to wear)…is it wrong for either gender to wear them because it’s a genderless clothing item? And like I said about Deborah-I understand that in her example it was intended men be judges and she had to step in according to circumstances…it also talks about prophesying where women aren’t supposed to “speak” in church or over a man except when necessary (ministering to a non-believer where no one else is available) so can the same be applied for battle? Rosie the Riveter who was a woman dressed in work clothes during a time of crisis where women were needed to work-is that wrong according to the bible?
PLEASE respect my question and don’t mock me b/c of YOUR beliefs being different than the bible-I’m trying to understand the BIBLE’s interpretation of my question OK? I’m not asking this question in general, ok? Just trying to understand what the bible has to say about it.
And PLEASE be respectful and understanding that attacking the bible isn’t going to answer my question and there is no need to make this a battle over if what the bible says is “right” because I’m just trying to understand what it actually says. Thank you.

Galatians 3:28 “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”
As spiritually all are one in Christ and there is neither male nor female, they are all able to wear the same type of spiritual armour.
But if they are all one in Christ and male and female not recognized in Christ, why then did Paul say: 1Cor.14:34-35 “Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. 35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.”?
The answer has to do with the same reason he had just spoken before saying that: 1 Corinthians 14:33 “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”
Paul was dealing with the confusion of too many trying to speak in the congregation: 1 Corinthians 14:23 “If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?”
1 Corinthians 14:26 “How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.” (And we clearly know that women did prophecy in the first century congregation , so when Paul said: 1 Corinthians 14:31 “For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.”, he meant women, also.
Why then did he specifically say women when speaking about being silent? Because the entire congregation is the woman bride of the husbandly owner, Christ Jesus. This may just have been his way of emphasizing to them to remain quiet when others are speaking and talk with Christ their husbandly owner in a silent prayer of their own. But maybe even more likely, the actual women needed to be mindful of what the non-believing onlookers would think about them talking over their husbands as such would stumble them from listening. Remember he said, “and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad”. The situation was unique to the need not to stumble anyone.
What Paul was saying is that disrespectful women as they were all acting like with disregard for the confusion they were creating by all trying to talk, thus render them foolish looking to onlookers and robbing the value from the message of Christ in the eyes and ears of those non-Christian onlookers. He was not laying down a rule by which to oppress women. Woman did prophecy in the first century congregations. And woman can teach so long as they do not render the message of Christ invalid to the minds of unbelievers by exercising authority over men in their sight.
Though they were all the bride of Christ they should not act as children interms of maturity or as gabby, busy body women, but as full grown men in their powers of understanding and order. Ponder that and you will see.
This concern for interested onlookers is the same basic reason for his counsel on head covering to honor non-Christian beliefs of that day and time, as Paul there stated just before giving that counsel: 1 Corinthians 10:31 “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:
33 Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.” 1 Corinthians 11:1 “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.” Then he goes on to talk about head covering.”
When you study, rememeber CONTEXT, CONTEXT, CONTEXT, so you might actually understand, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”
Perhaps then you will not pervert the teachings and cause people to think Paul and Christianity are against woman.
There is tons I could say on this subject. I have here scarcely scratched the surface.
